The Greatest Story Ever Told – Mon 11th Jun 07

This is an incredible video that was sent to me on Myspace today by the Universe Pink Unicorn (oh come on, it’s happened to all of us!).  I’ve not done total research on it myself, so I won’t uncritically accept everything it says at face value (lest I be accused by theists of the same thing I accuse them of).  But most of it to my knowledge is incredibly accurate and revealing.

Even if you don’t particular find religion interesting, take 25 minutes out to watch this simple unaggressive educational mini-documentary.  It is so revealing.  You will never look at religion the same way, or probably take it as seriously ever again!  I promise anyone who watches it that you won’t regret it.

“What’s wrong with having it good for a change? Now they’re gonna let us have it good if we just help ’em. They’re gonna leave us alone, let us make some money. You can have a little taste of that good life too. Now I know you want it, hell everybody does.” – from They Live

The only thing I would change on that video if I could, would be to substitute “manure” for “soil” in that closing sentence.

Hm. Checking the etymology of “set” as in “sunset”, I don’t find any mention of Horus or Set or warfare between them. See here: http://www.yourdictionary.com/ahd/roots/zzs00700.html

Hi Thysz, thanks for the comment and the link! Appreciated.

Hi RBH, I am not convinced by all the claims in the video, however Set was the brother and rival of Horus and there is plenty of info on Wikipedia about their rivalry.

I think SOME of the things on the video could be coincidences happily strung together, and Wikipedia disagrees on the birthdate of Krishna. I won’t accept it all uncritically but there enough in the essence of the video to highlight the real origins and commonly adopted stories of the monotheistic religions in the world today.

And to think that the evidence of fraud has been right under our noses – all this time.

This is “the World that Un-Critical Thinking Wrought”, isn’t it? What we need now is a mockumentary of “The Greatest Trial Ever Held!”, complete with all the Nicean playuhs, portrayed by important actors. Imagine the drama as an Alan Shore-type goes after the truth…

The thing that really got me about that video is that it’s basically a retelling of things that I have said to numerous people for a long, long time. It’s like I made this video in my head through my own research.

Sadly, for someone who is dogmatically committed to a myth, they have an answer to anything that satisfies their world view because they are too afraid to realize that it’s all the same stuff retold.

One important aspect that I think this leaves out, is that many religions spring up around an “oppressed” people as a way to make themselves feel better about their horrible situation. If they can believe that the ones oppressing them will suffer an eternal fate that is more horrible than what they are currently suffering, all is right with the world. This is what can be used to draw followers in. “Oh, we are good and righteous. The enemy will go to hell and suffer, so don’t worry about your horrible situation right now because you will go to heaven.” Quite the siren call to the destitute.
